Revit Families

Diane Butterworth Ltd is one of the UK’s leading providers of Revit Families for commercial furniture, having created digital content for over 30 workplace manufacturers. We specialise in creating Revit Families that link your products to a digital future, where information is recorded, viewed, and tracked throughout the product’s lifecycle.

Revit Families: The Key to Seamless BIM Collaboration

Revit Families are a fundamental component of Building Information Modelling (BIM) in Autodesk Revit. These customisable, reusable components represent real-world building elements, ranging from furniture and fixtures to structural systems and mechanical equipment.

They enable consistency, accuracy, and efficiency in design by standardising elements across a project. This reduces errors, improves communication between stakeholders, and simplifies changes during the design process.

In a collaborative BIM environment, Revit Families are essential for ensuring all project stakeholders work from a shared understanding of the design, minimising errors and improving coordination.
However, unlocking the full potential of Revit Families requires expertise. Collaborating with a specialist designer at Diane Butterworth Ltd ensures streamlined workflows, higher-quality outputs, and seamless integration with your project goals.

We pride ourselves on adhering to industry standards when creating our Revit Families. All our files are designed to meet the highest BIM and Revit specifications, ensuring compatibility and interoperability across a variety of platforms and project teams. By using our Revit Families, you can be confident that your project will remain on track and in line with established industry practices.

What Are Revit Families and Why Are They Essential?

Revit Families are parametric objects in Autodesk Revit that represent physical components in a building. These families contain predefined sets of properties, dimensions, and behaviours, which allow for flexible customisation to meet specific project requirements. At Diane Butterworth Ltd., we specialise in creating Loadable Families—RFA files that can be easily imported directly into your project.

The key types of families we focus on include:

  • Loadable Families: These are the core of our service—standalone elements like furniture, fixtures, and equipment that can be created or modified externally and loaded into your Revit project with ease
  • System Families: These elements, like partition systems, are integrated into the broader building model. While we don’t create these as RFA files, we support the modelling of systems within your RVT project.

How We Create Your Revit Families: A Simple Process

Creating a Revit Family for your product range is really quite simple, and we aim to make it as easy and smooth as possible. Here’s how the process works:

1 - Getting Started

To provide you with a quote, we just need a product specification or brochure. This helps us understand your product, its variations, and its different sizes, shapes, or materials.

2 - Quotation Approval

Once we receive the information, we’ll prepare and send you a quotation. Once approved, we’ll schedule the work in our diary, with a typical turnaround time of around 3 weeks, depending on the project.

3 - Gathering Resources

Before modelling, we may ask for any additional resources like CAD files, technical drawings, or just images and dimensions. We’re happy to accept files via WeTransfer or similar platforms.

4 - Modelling & Production

We’ll create the Revit Families using the product specs and resources. The families can be exported in various formats to suit your needs.

5 - Delivery & Review

Once the models are complete, we’ll send you a Dropbox link where you can download all the files, along with a PDF summary. If you don’t have Revit software, no problem! The PDF will help you visualise the files.

6 - Collaboration & Accessibility

If the files meet your approval, we can host them on our website, ensuring easy access for download and seamless collaboration within your BIM environment.

  • Expertise You Can Rely On: We specialise in creating Revit Families that integrate seamlessly with your project’s workflow.
  • Industry Standards: All of our files are designed to adhere to BIM and Revit industry standards, ensuring compatibility and seamless integration into your project environment.
  • Reflect Your Brand: We design bespoke Revit Families that align with your brand’s identity while ensuring compliance with building codes and regulations.
  • Streamlined Collaboration: Our custom designs facilitate collaboration, reducing rework and ensuring your project stays on track.

Why Choose a Specialist Designer?

Revit’s flexibility is a major strength, but it also presents challenges. Poorly designed families can lead to inefficiencies, inaccuracies, and compatibility issues, potentially derailing project timelines.

This is where specialists like Diane Butterworth Ltd. come in. Our expertise ensures Revit Families are created to the highest standards, tailored to meet your project’s specific needs.
